It’s More Than Just Music

My name is Maddy Perkins and I recently joined The Festival Babes team. I have been attending music festivals since before I was able to walk. My mom is a huge hippie: I’m talking tapestries, crystals, incense burning, jam band posters on the wall, and everything you could think of. As a child I was traveling every week to a different festival, concert, or event, and we would have local bands play in our backyard sometimes! My childhood was very different from most but I’m grateful that I got to experience the music festival life at a young age. I didn’t understand it at the time, but it molded me to be the person I am today.

I went to my first festival alone when I was only 17 years old in 2018. When the Hard Summer lineup was released, I decided that I had to be there and spent my last dollar on a ticket. I didn’t have a place to stay, plane ticket, or friends going, but I was determined to go, so I did. I flew across the country to California and went to the festival completely solo. I didn’t realize there was an age restriction of 18+ so I cried my way in, lol. I thankfully got in and It ended up being one of my all time favorite festivals! I also got to meet so many amazing friends during the weekend! I recommend for everyone to go to a festival solo at least once! My experience at Hard Summer lit a fire my soul, and after that I made it my mission to attend as many festivals as I possibly could.

Fast forward to 2022 and I’ve been to countless festivals. I am also currently following my dreams to pursue a career in the music industry. It’s more than just music to me, it gives me purpose. There is nothing in this world that I am more passionate about than music and traveling. I wake up every day and immediately put my headphones in, and get my day going. It’s rare to see me sitting in silence. I have never felt more alive, connected, and myself than I do at a festival. I once lost my battle to depression and I went through my phone to see all the memories from the festivals and it truly saved my life. I’ve met hundreds of like- minded individuals that I would never have had the opportunity to connect with in my everyday life. The friends I’ve met in this community will be my lifelong friends that I consider family.

I met Kat, The founder of The Festival Babes, in 2018 after a Bonnie X Clyde show shortly after my first festival. We ended up staying up super late talking aimlessly for hours about life and formed a good friendship. We then started going to a bunch of the same festivals and got super close. We’ve both always been on the same page of hopping on a plane to go to any opportunity given to us. The amount of β€œHey, want to go to Cancun tomorrow?” texts in our thread is hilarious. Kat launched The Festival Babes and I actually was the first influencer to be posted on the account. Years in the making, and the festival babes grew exponentially. We were in Cancun together, on a girls getaway, and Kat and I came up with the idea that I should join her on the team, so here I am! I’m so honored to be a part of The Festival Babes and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
