Thanksgiving is basically the Super Bowl of side dishes. The turkey is there, sure, but everyone knows the real stars are the carbs, casseroles, and desserts! Plus, that one dish someone guards like it’s a family heirloom.
So we asked the TFB team the only question that truly matters in November: What’s your favorite Thanksgiving side dish and why?
The answers were honest, chaotic, nostalgic, and very on-brand for us. Here’s what the team had to say:
- “Green Bean Casserole. It’s my specialty :)” I got greens, beans, potatoes, tomatoes 🎶 You can always tell when someone is proud of their dish. This is confidence from someone who has perfected their casserole No notes!
- “DEVILED EGGS! Anything you could ever need in a side dish is there. Mashed potatoes with tons of gravy is a close 2nd though.” Deviled eggs are a personality trait. This is someone who shows up early, pops two (or 10) eggs before the food is ready, and dares anyone to stop them. Classic!
- “Vegan Mac n cheeeeeze!” Simple. To the point. And honestly, vegan mac has gotten good enough that most people don’t even realize what they’re eating. Solid answer. I’ll take a plate, thanks! 🙏
- “Sweet potato casserole WITHOUT marshmallows because it reminds me of my mom and home every single time.” Nothing beats a dish that tastes like home. Also, the anti-marshmallow stance is strong and respected. It can definitely be a hit or miss. What’s your preference?
- “MACARONI IN AH POT 🤸🏽♀️✨… Oh, and deviled eggs. My grandma made the best homemade ones. I used to eat them all before anyone could get them.” This is elite behavior: protect the mac, steal the deviled eggs, leave no evidence (other than the toots you’re firing off from that concoction 😂). A true professional.
- “Turnips! Because I like to turn up on Thanksgiving.” At first, I was like… turnips?! Girl, what? 😭 But then I realized we have a 10/10 pun right here. Job well done. I audibly giggled.
- “Stuffing! My mom has always made the best stuffing and it’s such a nostalgic dish for me.” Stuffing is incredible when done well. And really ties the whole meal together. It’s warm, tasty, and a classic Thanksgiving side dish!
- THE APPETIZERS! Specifically, my mom’s signature Cream Cheese Curry Mango Chutney dip with crackers 🤤We love unique recipes and this one sounds like the perfect blend of delicious flavors. I’ll take a plate of these please!
- “My mom’s sweet potatoes. She’s made them since I was little and the nostalgia hits every time.” A recurring theme: the best sides come with childhood memories baked in. So sweet!
So What Did We Learn?
Everyone has that one dish that reminds them of home in one bite. Sometimes because it tastes amazing, sometimes because it reminds us of a special someone, a memorable moment, or simply because we just want to hoard the deviled eggs.
