This past weekend Olivia Rodrigo just proved that she knows how to do more than put on an incredible show!
This past weekend, Rodrigo brought Daisy Chain Fields to life in Irvine, California, creating an all-women’s music festival that was about so much more than just the music. And the craziest part? This was Olivia Rodrigo’s first festival.
For her first time creating and putting on a festival, Olivia went all in. Daisy Chain Fields brought together an incredible lineup of women across generations, including Chappell Roan, Doechii, Bikini Kill, Garbage, Mitski, The Breeders, Stevie Nicks and, of course, Olivia herself.
The whole idea behind Daisy Chain Fields was to create a space that celebrated women in music while also using the festival as a way to make a real difference for women and girls. And honestly, I think that’s what made this festival feel so special!
It wasn’t just about the artists on stage. It was about the community, the message and having thousands of women and girls in one place celebrating each other and the impact was HUGE!
The festival initially raised $10 million for organizations supporting women and girls, and Melinda French Gates then matched that amount, bringing the total to $20 million. That money will go toward 10 different nonprofit organizations working on issues including reproductive rights, maternal health, workplace protections and more.
For a first festival, that is seriously impressive.
There is so much that goes into putting on a festival that people never see — the planning, production, logistics, booking, partnerships and all of the little details that have to come together to make an event actually work. Olivia Rodrigo managed to take an idea and turn it into a full-blown festival with a massive lineup, a huge crowd and a mission that actually made an impact.
And it didn’t feel like a first attempt.
Daisy Chain Fields felt like the beginning of something that could become much bigger.
There was something really cool about seeing artists from completely different generations share the same space. From Stevie Nicks to Chappell Roan, Bikini Kill to Doechii, the festival showed just how many different generations and sounds can come together when the focus is on women.
Olivia Rodrigo has talked about being inspired by the legacy of Lilith Fair, and Daisy Chain Fields definitely carried that same feeling of bringing women together through music — but with Olivia’s own generation and personality woven into it.
And if this is what Olivia can pull off on her first-ever festival, I can only imagine what comes next.
Daisy Chain Fields was a huge success, but more importantly, it showed what can happen when an artist uses their platform to create something bigger than themselves.
