Every now and then, we stumble across a festival that feels like less of a weekend event and more like a soul-expanding journey. For us, that’s Sacred Acre, a one-of-a-kind, intimate festival tucked away in the wild beauty of Ninilchik, Alaska.
Sacred Acre is more than just music (though the 2025 lineup was absolutely stacked). It’s the way the festival grounds themselves feel alive, how the energy of the land and the ocean mixes with world-class performances, and how you find yourself connecting deeply with nature, history, and community.
A festival woven into Alaska’s history and nature
Nestled amidst the Alaskan landscape, “The Acre” alone is breathtaking. But what makes it even more special is how easy it is to step just a few minutes beyond the festival grounds and find yourself on Ninilchik’s dramatic black sand beaches admiring The Old Ninilchik Village. With its ties to Dena’ina Indigenous culture, Russian-American heritage, and generations of fishing tradition, the town gives Sacred Acre a sense of history and soul you don’t usually encounter at other festivals.
Adventures you won’t find anywhere else
Another unique thing about Sacred Acre is the way it blends festival energy with Alaskan adventure. Our babes got to enjoy a berry foraging tour, where a local guide walked us through the lush property pointing out herbs, flowers, mushrooms, and berries while explaining their traditional and medicinal uses. It felt like a live workshop in the middle of nature, and we learned so much while snacking on delicious wild raspberries and blueberries.
And then there’s the helicopter tour. Honestly, this might have been the most surreal experience we’ve ever had at a festival. You literally board a helicopter inside the festival grounds and within minutes, you’re flying past glaciers, coastlines, forests, and wildlife. Seeing Alaska from that perspective, while still buzzing from the energy of the festival, is something we’ll never forget.
Last year at Sacred Acre, we got to experience “Bumpin’ on the Bay”, which also deserves a shoutout. Picture this: sipping hot cocoa on a boat, whale watching, and dancing to your favorite DJs against panoramic views of Kachemak Bay. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime kind of memory.
Still Water: A sanctuary within the festival
As much as we love the high-energy side of festivals, Sacred Acre also gives you space to slow down and reconnect. The indoor Still Water space is a warm, welcoming haven with soft padded floors, glowing art, and a sense of calm that feels sacred. Each day offered workshops like yoga, meditation, sound healing, ecstatic dance, and cacao ceremonies. Moving, breathing, and reflecting together in that space gave us a beautiful balance to the wildness of the River Stage.
Sacred Acre is truly Sacred
What makes Sacred Acre so special is that it’s not just about music, it’s about connection. Connection to the land, to culture, to each other, and to yourself. From dancing under the Alaskan sky, to flying over glaciers, to grounding ourselves in Still Water, we felt like every part of the experience was designed to expand our minds and hearts.
It’s rare to find a festival that makes you dance until sunrise and also inspires you to slow down, learn, and connect with nature and history. If you’re ready for an adventure that’s as wild as it is grounding, Sacred Acre is the one to put on your list.
